Background:
Indian space company Digantara raises $50M to enter missile defense and expand in the U.S.
The funding came from both new and existing investors, including 360 ONE Asset, Japan’s SBI Investments, entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala, Peak XV Partners, and Kalaari Capital. The fresh capital will support Digantara’s transition from a space situational awareness-focused firm to a broader space intelligence and defense technology provider.
Founded to track and monitor objects in Earth’s orbit, Digantara currently operates a network of ground-based sensors and launched its first space-based tracking satellite, SCOT, earlier this year. The company now plans to apply its infrared sensing and imaging technologies to develop platforms capable of detecting and tracking missile activity from space.
As part of this expansion, Digantara has established a U.S. office in Colorado Springs and has been selected under the Missile Defense Agency’s Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense (SHIELD) contract framework. The company plans to develop a prototype missile-tracking satellite within the next 18 months, with a launch targeted for late 2027. This satellite will be developed in the United States.
Despite expanding globally, Digantara will continue to grow its space surveillance work in India.
Investors said Digantara’s integrated approach to building end-to-end space infrastructure and its ability to adapt existing technologies for adjacent defense applications were key factors behind the investment.
With this funding, Digantara strengthens its position as one of India’s emerging space technology companies with ambitions to play a global role in space security and intelligence.
